I'm not sure if this is the new normal for families like us, but I can tell you the winter sports scene is a killer. Right now we are knee deep in dance, basketball, and wrestling, and I'm not sure the parents are going to survive.
Our weekly schedule is generally crazy:
Monday - dance for Anna & Sarah, wresting for Jonah
Tuesday - wrestling for Eli
Wednesday - religious ed for Anna, Jonah & Eli, wrestling for Jonah
Thursday - NOTHING
Friday - basketball for Anna
Saturday & Sunday - combination of basketball and wrestling tournaments
I am very thankful this is our only crazy busy sports season.
Last night Mark took the boys to a wrestling tournament, and he moved Eli up into 1st grade. We've had him in the Kindergarten class until now, and he is always one of the largest four boys of all the Kers. The other three boys he gets paired up with are never athletic, and our little Eli always wins. I keep hoping he'll get more competition, but it's the same story everywhere we go. I see smaller kindergarteners wrestling hard on the mat, but it just doesn't seem to happen in the top weight class. It's really not worth the drive to have him push over a boy and pin him in seconds.
So we moved him up to 1st grade. I asked him this morning if he was the biggest boy in the 1st grade line, and he told me that he wasn't. Then he said the boys he wrestled were skinny and not round. Sounds like a couple of his matches were more challenging than usual, so I guess the move up was successful.
